Encapsulated Abstraction, 2022

Acrylic on MDF, Emulsion on MDF, Emulsion on walls and floor, 95 Sq ft

This installation aimed to encapsulate all of the interests that I had at the time while studying and exploring my practice. My interests included portraiture and how they interacted with flat, geometric and organic shapes, as well as painting in an expanded field and how a white wall space can be transformed into a space full of colour and shapes.

While ambitious, this installation taught me a lot about transforming exhibiting spaces, time frames, scale, custom cutting MDF and exploring new and bigger ideas even if they seem out of reach.

'Encapsulated Abstraction' took my work to a much larger scale than it had ever been before. The installation as part of the 2022 group exhibition '(im)possibilities', saw eleven custom cut MDF pieces arranged in a space including the main portrait, with painting on the floor, walls and ceiling accompanying them.
