What if The Art Stared Back? , 2021
Acrylic on MDF and Framed , 20cm x 15cm
The inspiration for this piece came from a long obsession with painting and drawing eyes over the years. From doodling eyes on the back of tests, drawing them on my arms in lessons and then painting them often in my work, I just enjoy the different feelings that eyes can convey in art. While collaging from magazines, I cut out and pieced together some eyes and a frame which got me thinking about how we as consumers of art often stare longingly at work online and in galleries, often trying to figure out what the painting is trying to convey or even just admiring the work. I had this question of “what if the art stared back at us for once?” and thus this piece was born. I hope to convery the idea the the souls belonging to the eyes are trapped within the work longing to come out but for now they are stuck just watching the world go by
