Consumed, 2021
Acrylic on canvas, 50 x 50 cm
'Consumed' explores the relationship we have with mass digital media and the Internet in contemporary society. This painting aims to visualise the overwhelm digital mass media has on many people today with advertisements, social media and icons being surrounded by us constantly.
This painting features a figure with many digital icons, social media apps and emojis appearing to come out of their head against a checkerboard background to represent digital image editing and files. The brighter colours of the icons contrast the monochrome black and white of the rest of the piece to convey a sense of overstimulation and overwhelm.
This artwork acted as an experiment for looking into digital media and how it effects us and this exploration within the contexts of this work allowed me to get a better understanding of the direction of work I am interested in.
